Some of them honestly do want to serve the people and they have high personal standards. Unfortunately, to go very far in politics, people usually have to make compromises against their better judgement. If someone is going to run for President then he must conform to the party platform even when his own feelings are different. Few politicians would step down rather than compromise their standards or beliefs. .
