Should children be paid to do chores?

In an effort to teach financial responsibility, some families pay their children to do chores. Shouldn't some jobs be done just because you're part of a family?

Paying kids for doing chores is a good idea.

Children should do their chores as payment for living at my house.

Everyone that is part of a family is part of a team and teams need to work together for the good of all.Certain things are expected of each one and no one needs to pay anyone for taking responsiblity for things that are expected of them.Kids should do what they are told out of respect for their parents not out of greed. The wrong message would be sent to them.Only do things for others if you are going to get something out of it.Is that the kind of people we want to raise and be around.Sounds kind of selfish to me..

Children are not employees, and should not be paid to do what SHOULD be expected of them. It teaches them responsibility and self-discipline (which so many children now lack)

taught as such. We don't pay our children for brushing their teeth or combing their hair which are also life skills, why should we pay them for washing the dishes. .

If we're all going to live together in one house, jobs just have to get done. You do them, feel good about your work, and that's enough "reward." That said, however, I also want to teach my kids how to handle money, so we do offer extra jobs to earn . money, but they're few and far between. Mostly, we buy our kids what they need (and sometimes what they want) and expect them to help at home because they live here.
