Should Halloween be celebrated in public schools?

Halloween is a pagan holiday that offends, or isn't celebrated by many cultures and religions. Should it be observed in public schools?

Halloween, at it's best, is about dressing up and candy. Not very academic!

Halloween celebrates death and gruesome stuff, is offensive to many cultures and therefore shouldn't

If families want to celebrate Halloween, they can do so on their own time. There are plenty of community parties they can attend. It really detracts from school, so it's better to leave it at home.

And then lets throw Christmas and every other holiday onto the bandwagon while we are at it shall we? I think that teaching children about our nation's holidays and their origins is a very good way to teach history.

Halloween is an American tradition and should be celebrated in our public schools.

Would Iraq stop celebratimg their holidays for foreigners in the country?

NO. Neither would any other country. If you don't like the holidays, don't celebrate, but dont expect the schools and the rest of the public places to 'hide' just to satisfy your religious beliefs. Halloween is a world-wide holiday.

I think that expressing Holidays is a great thing to do.

I think that there is a lot wrong in our society today with people getting touchy about Halloween. There are a lot of extremists who prefer that their children don't celebrate Halloween because it is the "Devil's" holiday. Funny thing, is that Halloween was create in celebrating of the banishment of evil demons from human society. This kind of close mindedness branched out to thinks like "Harry Potter", and the "Golden Compass". Christians and especially Catholics very adamantly shun these movies first claiming that the whole Harry Potter thing is of the occult and is evil (which is down right idiotic to me), and that the Golden Compass is reeking with anti-Christian teachings. They think that these movies are created with the sole purpose to lead children away from their religions. Let me tell you something, if you are having THAT hard of a time holding your children to the religion you hold so dear, then maybe THAT is the problem your looking at, not a movie that is trying to make money. Your religion should be able to hold its own without boycotting certain media, or are you all that weak and scared that your religion might get some kind of irrefutable argument tagged onto it?
