Are email thank you notes the same as sending one in the mail?

Yes, I think that sending an email card is just as good, even better than, sending a card by mail.

Think how much waste is generated by a card, envelope, and stamp. Add on the gas required for the mailperson to pick it up and deliver it...it's much better for the planet if you send cards electronically!

I agree, especially when most people throw away cards that they get within days of receiving it.
I think out with the old and in with the new, there are too many reasons for electronic letters over formal letters.

A thank-you note is not too much to ask when someone has bought you a present. They put thought and care into the choosing, and it's very nice to drop them a hand-written note of thanks.

Hey! the trees are already cut down anyways. Getting a real letter is more touching, your holding a piece of paper that the sender actually touched. Can't say that with an email.
