Was television programming better in the fifties and early sixties?

How does the quality of programs that are available now compare to the good old days?

Television in the old days attempted to set high standards. It offered dignity and warmth.

I'm a child of the 70's, and even shows in the '80's like the Cosby Show or Family Ties were a lot better than what's on today. I can't watch any sitcoms with my little girls today.

There is a lot of truth to that.
