Santa Claus - a fun tradition or lying to your kids?

When we tell our children that Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, etc exist, is that lying or is it part of childhood fun?

Santa Claus and other mythical figures are a fun part of childhood

Santa Claus is a magical part of the secular holidays. Pretend and lying are not the same thing.

There is no harm in creating a fantasy for the little ones that brings excitement and joy to the non-religious part of the Christmas holidays. Many wonderful memories can be made and cherished over their lifetime. .

Telling your children that these figures exist is lying to them

A child needs to know that their parents will be honest with them and not take advantage of that trust. When a child finds out that Santa isn't real, it can make him wonder what else his parents have lied about, esp if . the parents have gone to great lengths to convince him that Santa is real. It's just not worth lying to my kids about. I'd rather celebrate the spirit of Santa and of service and giving than put all that energy into convincing them of something that . isn't true. For some, finding out isn't a big deal, but I've known other kids that are just crushed. It's not worth it!
