Physical Punishment for Children
It has been a topic of debate for a very long time weather or not the physical punishment of children is justifiable of not. Is it wrong or right to spank your child? Slap? Hit? When does it go from Child punishment to Child Abuse?

There's no such thing as spanking when you're not angry.

Physical Punishment should be allowed as some children only learn to obey in the face of a spanking.
Physical Punishment should be allowed but highly refrained from often use. Never in Anger
-- Posted By eastwind on September 14, 2007I think that spanking a child should never done in anger. The child should know its coming and it shouldn't be excessive. It should still be done with love and not anger. The child should know WHY he or she is being punished. .
If the child proves to be stubborn and unteachable, maybe a good smack will straighten things out.

that children are not little adults, and they shouldn't be turned into godlings. There were many times that I didn't do something I shouldn't be doing simply out of fear of an ass-beating!
I now see children who openly call their parents "bitch" and "asshole" and say other things like that. They roam the streets at night, and only turn to their parents when they are locked up in jail for theft, drug use/possession, etc.
I often wonder if parents took a firmer hand with their kids if the world would be a differant place to live. Years ago we did not dare disrespect our elders and usually it was fear of what would happen if we did.Its very easy to tell the differance between abuse and discipline..You should not hit your kid with an object or leave any kinds of marks on them but a good ole fashion spanking never killed anyone...
Smacking your kids is no problem, especially if your from a Samoan backround or any pacific island ethnic, bekus its not really punishment for your kids, its to show the pain that the parents feel in their heart f dissapointment, its like a tradition but in a good way to keep their kids from trouble and to learn how to be humble, grateful and to know when to show respect when favoured or criticised..
Physical punishment should NOT be allowed as it can and very often leads to Physical abuse.
If you're calm, you can think of many better alternatives to spanking! It's never made sense to me to punish a child for, say, hitting a sibling, by spanking! Spanking only incites fear in a child; do you really want your child to be afraid of you?! . Spanking also teaches that whoever is bigger gets to force the smaller person into submission by physical intimidation. Spanking is bullying to the extreme.
Physical punishment is not relevant to the way things work in the real world.
-- Posted By jhall85 on September 27, 2007Adults don't get spanked. Why should children? It would be a much more valuable lesson to teach them that freedom comes with responsibility. The loss of rights is a much more profound lesson than physical pain. Its 2007 for crying out loud.
Hahahaha! yea I agree ^.
I think a little tap on the bottom or a light slap of the hand is fine as punishment. I think that
-- Posted By Rocky-Mt-High on September 13, 2007if more children had a firmer punishment when they do things wrong, less of them would get into trouble. With that being said I think it goes way to far when that little spank turns into mom or dad spanking a children over and over, if bruises are left or if the child is being spanked for very small offenses. .
