If female athletes use sex appeal to sell, should they expect respect?

If a female athlete uses sex appeal to sell a product, is she still respected?

If a female athlete is gorgeous, it doesn't hurt to use that to generate interest in their sport

Wait... who exactly is using sex to sell? Even if that may happen, who's to blame. Men fall for it.

Lauren Jackson, who plays for the Seattle Storm WNBA, is a great example of a beautiful woman who is a commanding athlete. She posed nude a few years ago as a celebration of her athletic body; this year she's MVP. Go, girl!

What would be wrong in doing both? Men do it ALL the time, and its not necessary to FLAUNT to be beautiful in a commercial. If a woman can do both it shouldn't take away from her achievements anymore than her male counterparts.

I think that it is unfair to discriminate between "women's" rights to a commercial and men's. Just because a woman is attractive in a commercial doesn't take away from her physical abilities. Why would you have difficulty taking her seriously?

Using her sex appeal diminishes the respect people feel for a female athlete

Toco_toucan

If you want to be known for your athletics, don't flaunt your sexuality.

In our American culture, athletes are respected and idolized. When a female athlete poses provocatively for an ad endorsement, or gazes seductively in the camera for a commercial, she makes it difficult for fans to take her seriously. I think a female athlete has to choose between being to be known for her strength, skill, and talent or for being beautiful. I think it's pretty tough to have both in this country.

CAN you be tasteful and promiscuous? I guess taste is in the eye of the beholder.
