Should Public School Teachers Be Allowed To Carry Concealed Weapons?
Teachers are faced with an ever increasing threat of violence at school because of this should they be allowed to carry a concealed weapon if they have a concealed weapons permit?

Teachers Should Be Allowed To Carry
What would have happened at Columbine, or at Virginia Tech, or any other school shooting if a teacher had a gun? I would be willing to bet that in all cases there would have been fewer deaths. Obviously making schools gun-free zones doesn't work, because the student with a death wish is not going to turn around and go home when he sees a sign that says "no guns allowed." Signs like that only work for people who wouldn't commit this sort of crime anyway.
I do not deny that guns can be helpful in a violent situation. They should just be in the hands of a professional.
Again, not all school violence involves guns. If you want to encompass more school violence other than that with firearms, LTL is the way to go.
Public schools are just that, public. They are ran by the states not by private companies. The state

In the case of the Oregon teacher, she had the proper permit. She also was under threat of violence from her ex-husband. What would . the school do if the teacher was harmed on school grounds. Teachers in general are under threats of violence. The recent school shootings prove that. Maybe people, whether it was an upset teen or crazed adult would think twice before. entering a school and opening fire if they knew people inside could possible be carrying a weapon. .
Statics show us that in areas where there is a high number of concealed weapons, there is lower crime. It would seem that that same thing would apply in schools, public and private. .

Of course, you might be thinking 'well that only applies to the students! Yuk yuk yuk.' Well, it doesn't. The board more than likely encompasses all people who enter their school when they say 'this is a gun free zone'. By entering that building, you are giving up your second amendment rights. It's no different than actually saying 'I'm giving up my second amendment rights.' A police officer or other government official can violate any of your constitutional rights if you give them up. Just because they're in the constitution doesn't make them infallible.
Also, as I said in my argument to the right, a school is far safer with a firearm in the hands of a trained and seasoned police officer than in the hands of a teacher. Please read over that argument before responding.
Yeah this is a great idea, but the majority of people who are murdered in a school setting are students. So, I think we should let them carry guns also (you know...to protect themselves). Also, if a parent is upset about their child's grades- they should also be able to bring a gun to the parent teacher conference (you know... to protect themselves). And also, I know that many banks have been robbed in my area, so I should be able to bring a concealed weapon there (you know...to protect myself). Really, this is a great idea- lets actually make it okay to bring guns to school!! Hooray- this is much easier than addressing any underlying problems!
When a problem happens, is it better to set up something that will deal with the problem when it happens, or is it better to fix the problem altogether?
I spent my grade school years in Colorado and I was in Elementary school when the Columbine massacre occurred. As you can probably guess, Colorado's school system was hit harder than any other state. However, instead of arming every school official, they decided to take steps to deal with what was believed to be the underlying cause of the massacre: bullying. As a victim of bullying in elementary and middle school, I can tell you that their programs worked quite well despite the fact that a lot of kids thought it was stupid. Dare I say it, but that's one good thing that came out of Columbine.
After looking at this I think that allowing teachers to protect themselves is even more important. The right to protect oneself shouldn't be ignored.

In fact, if you think about it (this is something I haven't touched on) there are less than lethal (LTL) rounds for most large firearms. Now, it would admittedly be very difficult to lug a 12 gauge shotgun on your belt, but if you kept it in a lock box, then that would be a much better alternative. There are many LTL shotgun rounds, whether they be rubber shot, beanbags, rings, or other projectiles. They even make flash bang shotgun rounds. I think it's best to keep it LTL.
No Teacher Should Have a Gun at School
Are the right-wing nuts so crazy as to really propose this idea? Are we such a violent and gun-loving country that this idea is taken seriously?
Yes, it would be concealed, but you know that kids are smart. It wouldn't take long til the whole school knew that Mrs. J packs heat. Sure that could serve as a deterrent, but it could also be seen as a challenge to steal it from her. If there are security guards (armed?) and metal detectors at the school, why would she need to protect herself? She could have them escort her to and from her car, and be safe on school grounds.
i can't shake the terrible feeling that some mentally iffy teacher is going to go on a rampage.
besides the fact that i don't think most people who have guns should have them. i absolutely fucking hate guns.
I know at face value this sounds like a good idea, but the simple reality is that many crimes involving weapons are crimes of passion that rely on poor judgment in the heat of the moment. Allowing teachers to carry weapons increases the opportunity for violence and is really unnecessary in the grands scheme of things. I am not opposed to having police in schools, but allowing this to teachers spreads the weapons way too far.
rigggght lets have a shout out between an untrained teacher and an angry student. My kids would be safer this way....
Teachers are people too. And people, when making decisons in real-time, tend to make very costly mistakes. These mistakes could result in and innocent staff member or child being wounded or kill It also could encourage kids to bring guns to school to protect themselves from the teachers. The answer to school violence starts at home with better parenting. The failure of parents to properly raise their children causes much of the violence in todays society. I sympathize with the teachers but giving them guns is just a recipe for more chaos.
Everyone knows when you have Children and/or Teens in the house you really should not keep guns in the house!, but now we are considering letting teachers carry them....I know teaching as become hard and sometimes can have safety issues for teahers and children but allowing them to use deadly force in the classroom is not the answer
It's pathetic that the majority of the American people seem to think that every school child is a homicidal maniac just ready to snap. From somewhat recently exiting the secondary school system, I can tell you a lot of teachers are just as likely to go postal in a school as any of the kids are, the only reason why you only hear about kids doing it is because there are usually anywhere from twenty to forty teachers in a school with anywhere from three-hundred to six-hundred kids in it. If you take a group of six-hundred random people and a separate group of forty random people, in the span of four years, you're far more likely to see one of the six-hundred commit murder than one on the group of forty. One of these days you'll see a teacher massacre a school, it's only eventual.
Of course, there's also the issue that not every teacher is going to be careful with their guns. They might leave them in their desks or place them anywhere but on their person and if a kid did decide to blow someone's head off, then hey, there's a gun just sitting there, click, boom, damn, one dead kid.
Also, not every teacher is a burly football coach. My freshman English teacher was a five foot one woman, and even in my scrawny freshman physique, I could easily overpower her and take any gun she may or may not be carrying.
Many schools already have resident police officers nowadays. I think the school is a lot safer with a gun in the hands of a seasoned, trained police officer than in the hands of an unstable calculus teacher and an angry gym teacher.
Why on earth would a teacher be allowed to carry a gun??? thats so so so dumb, if the school is having that much trouble with violence then they should up security and get metal detectors like everyone else. Guns are NEVER the answer!
Even if teachers concealing weapons was sold to students as a means for their protection, they would not buy it, especially in poor or inner city schools. They would see it as "us" (students) vs. "them" (teachers). That attitude of mistrust is what leads to violence in the first place. Maybe Columbine wouldn't have happened at all if those unfortunate kids had felt more trust in their teachers and not the misguided philosophies they adopted.
I don't particularly like the idea of people carrying weapons anyway. I believe they lead to more crimes of passion, because they make it so much easier to accomplish. Schools should be safe zones and teachers carrying weapons simply does not jive with that image. If necessary, put metal detectors, but don't allow weapons into the classroom.
