too lazy to go to the library

-- Posted By GoblinGlasses on March 18, 2009

only lazy people can argue that the internet is diminishing our ability to communicate. who uses such ridiculous abbreviations anyway? personally i'd find that irritating also but i think silly abbreviations are besides the point here. the internet is a vast library of information that's constantly growing. its really up to you to take the initiative and actually benefit from what the internet offers. come on, free music, wikipedia, open source software, youtube tutorials, TED talks, almost anything you're slightly interested in learning right in front of you. i think the worlds culture is growing and will continue exponetialy as more information and influence is uploaded to the web.

The internet is becoming a part of everything. I influences how the whole world works now.

. If it creates a new way of communicating, maybe thats just how things are evolving.

I'm pretty sure sholars aren't going to accept OMGWTFBBQ any time soon.
Gah...damn it...I meant scholars
I think that the internet is making us lazier and less efficient in learning capabilities. because now its just there we find out answers in an instant no patience. Our youth and our future generations aren't gunna have a attentionspan the size of a damn kitchen mouse at this rate. They don't have any patience what so ever. But i dont think its actually making us "DUMB"

We've come full circle!

-- Posted By MoltenWhisper on September 12, 2007

This is a step by step process in how we have stopped using complete sentences, moved on to using one or two word responses and emoticons, and now, we aren't even attempting to spell out the words any longer.

. In a way perhaps we have come full circle, from primitive cave drawings to great literary achievements, and now back to smilies and abbreviations. In the future, instead of speaking, they will beat each other about the head with rudimentary tools once used while composing enchanting sentences; pen, paper, and a brain.

. With the millions of words we have within our grasp, why make up something that has little or no flair to explain something that, at one time, could fill a volume of a book. .

You have probably noticed, as have I, that the language we use with which to communicate has vastly degraded over the last decade or so. I blame this on what we call "informal" communications means.

. In the past, in order to communicate, you did a few things: spoke to the person directly either by visiting or by phone, or wrote a letter. Yes, a letter. Those archaic things that were written by your hand, not typed with your fingers.

. Now, we live in a world where we don't even bother to call people. We stay in touch with email, the first evil. The second evil that has led to the world of poor language and communication skills is instant messaging. The last and final evil for the day, and by far the one that scares me the most, is text messaging. After watching our commercials even make fun of this horrible trend, I fear for my children.
