Public School children face more socialization issues than homeschool children do.

It's unfair to consider the socialization draw backs of being homeschooled without also considering the socialization draw backs of the public school system.

People love to bring up socialization when talking about homeschool kids, but it's about time that someone brought up the socialization issues of public school children. Bullying is at an all time HIGH, for starters. It is a myth that homeschool children never experience peer pressure or bullies, they still learn how to deal with these types of things. Socialization issues of the public school system include: constant peer pressure and exposure to drugs, sex, . and all kinds of inappropriate behavior, violence and pressures. People always say that we're the most cruel when we're young. How many scars do you carry with you from your youth? I'm not saying that homeschool children should be sheltered from . any type of adversity. I'm just saying that it's about time we acknowledge that socialization issues aren't what they used to be for the homeschool children OR the public school children. Times have changed.

With everything available to homeschooling families today, unsocialization is a problem of the past.

Homeschooling is so common now days that the resources and programs available are so numerous that one family could not take advantage of them all if they tried! If homeschool children have socialization issues, I would place the blame with the . parents. Even the public schools have programs and cla*!*s for homeschool children. Actually, studies even show that these children are often more socialized. They are used to interacting with children of all ages. .

They are not restricted to mandatory chair time in an institution, nor are they restricted to one building for the bulk of their day. Sitting next to another child does not constitute socialization. . Neither does having lunch in a noisy, stressful cafeteria. Homeschool children have the freedom to accompany a parent out into the 'real world' at any time. They have access to homeschool play groups and other activities. . The danger now is that homeschool children have so many social choices that they run the risk of crowding out academics! This happend to us and we actually had to cut back on the socializing a bit. .

Homeschool children face WAY more socialization issues than public school children.

School is a rite of passage. Going to school is as well. All of the hype around home schooling is a bandaid to solve what the problems are in the education system. It might be helpful on a case by case basis, but overall harmful. When the kids grow up and get into the real world, how many of them are going to be able to work from home? Not many. Why instill unrealistic life skills into these children?. Kids can and should be encouraged to be diverse and work within diverse groups. By removing them from regular schooling, you are taking away one of the most important social and life skills needed to make it in the world now. And on a side note: most people can't home school their kids. Single parent households or households with two working parents can't support home schooling. They can't afford it! Homeschooling is only available to a small sect of people.
