American hubris and the Iraq war.

If there are any Americans reading this, you will probably have to go and look up the word hubris, but the fact is, America has nothing to be proud of. Their recent behaviour in Iraq and Gitmo prove they are no better than Saddam Hussein was. It's al

I find it disheartening that you would begin your post with such a pithy attack. We're not all entirely stupid you know. . Your point would be better taken, imho, if you wouldn't verbally attack first. .

The war over oil?

-- Posted By Steviejeep on August 11, 2008

The Iraq war is not about either of these issues. We have to capability to eliminate oil dependency at any time. Iraq was content to be dictated, and did not ask for us to free it, if you think back you'll remember that the reason we went into Iraq was to find weapons of mass destruction and stop global terrorism. This war is about what nearly every war has been about for the length of recordable history, Money. The planned budget for the 2009 U.S. Military is $965 Billion Dollars, Most of which will go into the pockets of Bush supporting government contractors. Not to mention the sales of weapons by U.S. contractors to the countries that want to destroy us. At the root of every great conflict you will find a money issue, because money is power.

America is trying to free the Iraqi people and the oil is secondary.

The oil is something that has gone on since the beginning of the 20th century. The fighting over there started because they couldn't come to grips with the change in shifting power in their own countries. We came over to stop the fighting, even though we most certainly will benefit from the oil, it was something that we were already involved in in the first place. It goes back to before the 2nd WW.
