every culture is now familiar with the american idyosyncracys of the english language, and we just ignore them. Why then are the Yanks so intolerant of proper English Speech?. The big problem is that america is spreading it's problems globally. Take obesity, in the UK we are just a few years behind. While many american exports are welcome the fast food culture is not.

Other 'cultures' are old skool for new generation.

Other countries younger generations are tired of the old traditions and are moving towards the 'American Way' simply because people here have choices to do what they want instead of arranged marriages, controlled media, etc. If you lived in a country where you weren't allowed to make your own decisions based on YOUR OWN beliefs (not beliefs that were drilled down your throat since birth), wouldn't you rather have a CHOICE?

Because we were one of the first "open" countries, meaning immigrants from everywhere were invited to make this land their home, we are blessed to have an abundance of different cultures and ideas here in America.

The scary thing about that is today many children participate in those cultural activities.. but they aren't educated on where the activities come from. Pinatas are common at birthday parties, but does every child know the pinata's origin?

It's important that we keep the cultures alive and significant by reminding our children where they came from. America absorbs other cultures, but it shouldn't be a communal sponge. We should be able to pick the sponge apart and see the components.

No, America is not consuming other cultures.

With the advent of mass media, the world is beginning to fuse into one large culture, instead of culture being defined by borders. I, in Philly, am now influenced by the same magazines/movies/music as a man in Tokyo.
