Ban Alcohol
Alcohol is such a vile, purposeless drug that it's troublesome to see it as integral to society today as it is. While it may be tough to do, ideally it would be banned on the basis that it has no productive use.
Alcohol is nothing more than an idoits form of entertainment.
-- Posted By eastwind on January 10, 2008Alcohol really is useless. Some would argue that it is part of our culture and that it is a way to bond socially. I think that is a bull$hit excuse. Just because its part of our culture doesn't make it a valid substance. Alcohol and or the addiction to alcohol is the cause of countless deaths due to drunk driving. It is the cause of spuose abuse and physical abuse. It is the medium of hundreds of thousands of rapes. It is a mindless and pointless entertainment. Are you who would argue with me saying that you are stupid enough that you can't have fun with each other WITHOUT alcohol? Come ON that is really lame. Drop the bottle.
Yes, alcohol should be banned. Alcoholism is one disorder which is increasing at an alarming rate.
-- Posted By angelme on September 10, 2007Alcoholism makes a person weak , both mentally and physically. It can cause a number of ailments too. .
It's not its addictive nature that makes it dangerous; it's everything else.
-- Posted By lindsayloo14 on September 10, 2007People are addicted to caffeine, chocolate, salt.. it's the fact that alcohol is dangerous to our bodies. It's poison, and it interferes with our judgment, our inhibitions, and our decision making. That's why its distribution should be controlled.
I mean, common. How many people die every year from drinking & driving? What about weed?. It just seems stupid that weed is the one thats illegal, but alcohol is perfectly legal.
I lobe alcohol
Banning alcohol will cause utter chaos in the society.
-- Posted By perspectives on September 10, 2007If you legalize the banning of alcohol from society, you will be responsible for the birth of the single biggest black market in history. . If the government bans alcohol on a Friday, does that automatically mean that each and every club, convenience store and gas station is to be simultaneously checked whether there was any sale of alcohol? The movement is simply too impractical.
Alcohol is like very other drug. The only way to regulate it's use is to licence it.
-- Posted By visionary1 on September 10, 2007The majority of the problems caused by drug addiction can be controlled only by legalisation and control of dangerous substances. Control supply and control the user.
The consumption of alcohol is based on a social and cultural reason.
-- Posted By perspectives on September 10, 2007Most people who have drunk alcohol have done so with the sole reason for socializing. It is a part of the societal structure where one celebrates with wine or beer. Concluding that alcohol is addictive simply because there have been exceptions to those who do not physically, mentally and emotionally depend on alcohol, is not fair to those who have been drinking it merely for the sole reason of socializing. .
You're contending that alcohol isn't addictive, that alcoholism isn't real?
Alcohol has addictive properties, but is not addictive to everyone. Unless my two beers per year can be construed as an addiction problem.
What is more dangerous than alcohol is a government that over steps its boundaries, as during the prohibition era. We don't need to government to take away things from us like we are children.
Come on... we are supposed to learn from our mistakes in history lest we be doomed to repeat them. Prohibition was one of the worst times in this country, where simple people were made into criminals because of alcohol consumption, and mobsters ran rampant because of the new black market. Even the war on drugs has been fairly ineffectual when all is added up. I do agree however that the government should regulate some things such as drinking and driving, but that really falls more under the driving regulations for public safety. I do not however think that the government should be involved in anything that the only victim is the person who is using.
The last time this was tried it ushered in one of the most violent eras of the 20th century. you think people are violent over coke. take beer away and watch the docile little piggys begin to riot in the streets.
If you're unfamiliar with Prohibition in 1920's, let me enlighten you. Alcohol was completely outlawed by the government. The crime rate soared so greatly in response that they were forced to overturn it. When you take something away from an entire country that they love, you know that it's going to cause one hell of a shit storm. If we suddenly outlawed coffee, how do you think people would respond? Video games? Guns? Caffeine?
Drug violence happens because the business is so lucrative due to its illegal status and its addictive properties. If someone is addicted to coke, but they have no money, do you think it'd be beyond them to kill someone for money or for coke? Probably not. The same will happen to alcohol and it did in the 1920's during prohibition. That's when all the major American gangs really took power. They knew the American people loved their booze, and they still really really wanted it even though it was illegal. So they started getting it or making it themselves and selling it in secret. You can find videos of police busts where they're busting open entire barrels full of beer and pouring it down storm drains.
History shows that banning alcohol is a really really bad idea. We tried it before and it didn't work, there's no evidence saying it will work a next time.
Banning alcohol will only cause a black market in it, just like the drug trade. Drugs are illegal, yet the US is awash in them. Even if it's banned, people will still find a way to get it, or make it.
If they did that in Austria people would probably be majorly upset and angry. I think there'd be a an angry mob with forks and torches outside the parlament. oh my god!
I think we can all have fun with or without alcohol. I choose to drink it because it's fun and saying it should be banned is like taking skateboarding away from kids, sex away from adults, toys from infants, it's fucking stupid to say it should be banned.
People! how many time should we go down the same road to failure. During prohibition, alcohol can be banned just like drugs but what happens then? Al Capone all over again?
living in a society where people have to justify breaking the law is problematic. a ban on alcohol would be in the self interest of very few people and forcing people to accept what they think is right is fascism. if the majority of the people are aware they are doing something illegal there will be no trust between the government and the people only relentless enforcement and persecution.
