Is makeup a cover up, or a sign of personal pride and hygiene?

Are women who wear makeup creating false beauty and covering up what they really look like, or is makeup something all women should wear to enhance their beauty?

I think that our society has gotten to the point where make-up and the stereotype of women has gotten out of control. Women shouldn't have to do ANYTHING to their appearance to look beautiful. We are trained to think that there is only one way to look sexy or appealing. We are taught that there is only one kind of beauty. I think that we are sadly mistaken and that is ruining a lot for those who can't meet that requirement. Make-up is a costume to fit into that lie.

Covering up uneven skin tone or brightening up the eyes or adding a natural blush to the cheeks makes a woman look and feel her best. .

Makeup can enhance natural expressions and also show the current emotional state of someone.
Also, there is nothing bad about covering small imperfections or conditions. We do it all the time during our lives, at our work (with fancy resumes or even a "tie"), with our food (with condiments), etc.
It does not mean that you are trying to change or hide, but that you care with other people's feelings and perception, and you want to be more pleasurable to their eyes.
After all, we are primarily living in a visual era.
