Democratic socialism is necessary!
Our capitalism is such a superficial front. The government has their hands so deep in the pockets of large corporations and visa versa that i couldn't fathom how people can say this is a free economy. .
The Current system was designed by a select few so a select few can benefit. One only needs to look back into what opening up prospering socialist economies to free trade did throughout Latin American. The basic fact is that within the current system Human Rights LAWS are eroded.
Democratic socialism provides citizens basic rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
-- Posted By Robpea on September 9, 2007Socialism does not have to be synonymous with fascism or the taking away of an individuals rights. By guaranteeing free healthcare and better wages for low-income persons, a democratic socialist society more efficiently provides for all citizens.
Democratic socialism, national socialist socialism, communitarian socialism, fabian socialism, marxist socialism, the ideology by any name is an experiental failure because it MUST curtail FREEDOM to be enterprising and to keep the fruit of labor.
So with that established, do you tax people? And if so who do you tax, the rich? The Poor? The Middle class (if there ever was such a thing)?
Socialism, Communism, Fascism, Nazism, Marxism...All of these say tax the ones with the money, give it to those who do not have it, and call it "Free". It's not free, you take the money from those who, Albiet may not have earned it the right way, but who still have it a lot of it, and give it away to those who don't have any.
Never do the people promoting these "ism" take into account that when you tax the Rich to give to the poor, you make it so that the "Rich plateau" becoms unassessable to those who are trying to reach it, but taxing them so much they cannot earn more money than is going out in taxes.
Those who are being given the "Free" money, will in most cases have the phylosophy of "Hey, if i am given this when i didn't earn it, why would i be dumb enough to go out and WORK for it." Law of Interia states that an object that is in motion tends to stay in motion until some outside force acts upon it.
The normal, average human state is to do as little as possible for the most results, so if somebody is not required to work for what they get, they won't VOLUNTEER to work for it. The same goes for the so called "Rich and Privaledged". They found the secret to getting rich, do a certain amount of work for a certain amount of money, work harder at it and you make MORE money. There is a certain give and take relationship with the Dollar. So if you have to give out more than you are taking in, you will have a tendency to STOP giving out.
Hence two cases of LOST PRODUCTIVITY because of Socialism, Communism, Etc.
Take GM for instance, GM has been bailed out, not once, but TWICE now by the Federal Governemnt, finally they were given a certain date that they had to show some results. Why? Because unless they were threatened with the problem of having to PAY BACK the Governemnt bailouts, why would GM change their habits? They wouldn't.
Yet Socialism and Communism have the same philosophy, bail out those who are weak, tax those who are strong. Try to make ALL work on the same playing field. Money cannot be made by two different businesses working by the same rules. The same as two AMERICANS cannot be expected to behave the same, they are two individual people, the same as two businesses are individuals.
The only Market that works, is the FREE MARKET.

-- Posted By Hacbarton on September 10, 2007Pure capitalism works because it follows basic rules of logic. Socialism does not work because it requires humanity to act a certain way. Humans are irrational beings. However, some things should remain in government control, like education.
Russia, Cuba, Venezuela, France... give us a good example where socialism has worked for a major country. If the stupid Liberal would just stop screwing up our country and inhibiting companies to succeed the we could make capitalism and altruism work.
Government regulation of business and enterprise destroys the free market economy.
-- Posted By Robpea on September 9, 2007By trying to individually appease all the have-nots of a given society, socialism destroys motivation for hardwork. And because health care is so intimately tied to our economy, socializing it will lead to the fall of the American markets.
Free health care that dictates how many doctors my practice in an area, as some are proposing, is as foolish as free legal care that dictates how many lawyers may practice law in an area. Socialism is an ideology of control, failure and regression.
