Third party supplies
While HP, Canon, Brother, Epson, and the others claim that the ink in THEIR ORIGINAL cartridges is authentic and guaranteed to be true to color and quality, there are many places where (at least HP) cartridges (or some of them) can be refilled, like OFFICEMAX...
For those looking for perfection and quality in every single print, hands down go with the manufacturer's original cartridge. But for the majority of us who want at least some semblance of nice color and appearance, but wish not to spend more than the printer costs, going with refills or recycled is better.
However, I do highly recommend that anyone using an INKJET printer and never prints photos or uses any color for any reason is wasting their hard-earned money.
Get a LASER if you're only printing text without color. Investing in a high-to-medium grade laser printer that puts out about 2000-6000 pages per $40-$90 cartridge is far cheaper in the long run than an inkjet that puts out about 60-300 pages for a $20-$50 cartridge...
Do the math.
