Catholism: Get with the Times or Maintain Tradition

No women as priests and no marriage allowed. Will the Church survive with these strict, outmoded views?

Understand the Origin of Religions

-- Posted By Rattail on September 9, 2007

One only needs to think through the reason that "Religions" exist to answer the questions presented in this argument. You then will understand why adaptations take the path on which they currently tread.

See the Argument "The Bible is a Nice Piece of Twisted Fiction" sub-title "The Bible, and all religions, were created as a means of getting people to control themselves." for answers to these questions.

Celibacy whats the reason, and why?

-- Posted By oneway4 on September 8, 2007

That Celibacy, actually originated in the 12th Century, and does not come from the 12 Disciples as previously taught in Catholic teachings.

Why does the Catholic Church, not allow its Priests to have wives and families to be normal as all others are.

What are you talking about?

Look up 1 Cor 7:1

Consider that the Catholic priesthood is a vocation. It's not a 9 to 5 occupation. It would be impossible to feed, clothe, and house priests with families. Also, a man with a wife and kids must focus on his family, not just his parish.

Someone forgot to tell the Pope it is the 21st century.

I don't understand how something can be so exquisitely broken, yet the people in charge stand there is their eyes and ears closed, but their mouths running. Maybe the church could have saved themselves a few million dollars by allowing marriage. The priest is still going to be holy regardless. When has God shunned love between two people? Why do we have these restrictions to begin with? Why does one need to suffer in order to be deemed worthy?. And I am sorry, but anyone that doesn't think a woman can do the job is only going to continue to sink over time. How can you gain new members to replace the old if you are off the cuff alienating half of your potential customer base?

Rocked by scandals and flagging membership, the Pope and Catholics really need to add fresh life into the system. They need to adapt or the massive closings of churches and the funding will continue to drag. If they keep up with the status quo, not only will they lose their membership, they will also run out of places to preach and priests to spread the word of God.

There is an obvious Dilemma here with and obvious answer. You all are looking at the Catholic church from a commercial standpoint. If they don't do this their numbers will go down. The Catholics are thinking "God is unchanging" and so they don't make changes lightly, but they HAVE made many changes in the past. That seems to nullify their credibility to an extent. The answer is simply that they are not completely true, they are not altogether a true church. It means that Divinity doesn't manifest itself in the Catholic church in a way that would mean that it is the Divine's one true church in earth.

Strength with Tradition

Keep with tradition if that's what you want. They can keep their traditions while you go with the flow. Get over it. Besides if relgion changes with the time, does everyone send God and e-mail instead of taking time to actually pray?

The Catholic Church should have STAYED with tradition in the very beginning. Before the stupid creed. At that meeting things were just guessed or thought up. Should have kept the church exactly the same as when Christ was here. They instead of following Christ changed the structure and ways of His church. Therefor they already changed pass the point of proper functionality and are nulled out.

I'm not a Catholic, but isn't God the same today yesterday and forever or something like that?

If God does stay the same, why should his earthly kingdom change with the "times"?
