With so many undocumented workers residing in the US, what is the appropriate way of handling the situation?

Why are we not supporting Mexicans in their desire to become US citizens?

Give Them Citizenship
I think it's way too expensive and complicated to become an American citizen.
-- Posted By flippinsweet on September 13, 2007If we want to change illegal immigrants into legal ones, the system needs a streamlined overhaul. It is very expensive and takes forever to go through the naturalization process. Especially as a parent, I can see why people risk and sacrifice so much to come here. Doesn't mean I agree with them coming illegally, just that I get it. Why not simplify the process and let them become citizens?
2. Many people from other countries that come to America each year dont enjoy the same priviledge as mexicans et al, they should all do it the right way, ie. wait in line, not to mention the gangs and terrorist types that make it over here easy as pie.
3. It also wouldent be so bad if they would appreciate this society and TRY to assimilate instead of expecting us Americans to cater to them!
Why are we not supporting Mexicans in their desire to become US citizens?
-- Posted By kreiley on September 7, 2007First, most people from Mexico are working jobs no one else wants to take. They are also paid less than most Americans, and the employers continue to enjoy the benefits. If they were legal, this wouldn't be a problem. Why are we discriminating against certain cultures? Indiviuduals from some countries can immigrate, idividuals from other countries cannot. There is no clear line. . The original people of this land were/are Native Americans. How is it that most of the families of immigrants are saying "No!" to immigration, as though they have something to lose? Without relaxed immigration laws, they wouldn't be here. In any number of areas the United States has set itself up to be the good samaritan country. If the government were so worried about others, support immigration, not the fascist regimes they are trying to flee or flee the poverty starving them.
Honestly how many americans are willing to do some of the jobs they do willingly. We are a society of 'haves'.
It's easy to tell them to go back to mexico while you sit in your nice house and drive a nice car
-- Posted By Jarod on January 14, 2008these people come from a country where they have no power to fix anything. yes, what they are doing is illegal but at the same time their government is so corrupt down there that sneaking across the border is hardly anything to be offended by. why should the poor people who have never had a choice in anything just be forced to suffer because of the sad state of their government? you people are fucked up, greedy, selfish bastards. all they want to do is give their families a chance. you were all probably born in a middle class suburb somewhere and have no idea what it is like to not be able to afford medicine, clothes or even food. and what are you bitching about? taxes? fuck you! these people have to pay to go to highschool! what is the point in being one of the most powerful, stable countries in the world if we cant even help our closest neighbors. you people make me sick. money isnt everything you fucking gluttonous, selfish pigs. what about easing human suffering? i hope one day you feel the pain of being under the boot of some apathetic, greedy monster who wouldnt lift a finger to ease your suffering because of some imaginary line or the color of your skin. what power do they have to fix their own problems, lanfear? they have no chance. america is the only way for some of these people. show a little compassion. it could have been you that was born on the other side. jesus, you people are fucking monsters.
Ship Them Home
So many people in the world want to get into this country, why should we allow the ones that did it illegally to stay?. I can't stomach rewarding bad behavior. If we do give them carte blanche into the country because some mushy liberal is feeling like the Hispanic vote is going to kill him/her in the future, what else, or who else, will we allow in later?. These people are doing something illegal. They should be treated like criminals. We don't give other people convicted of crimes a green light. Why do they deserve more privileges than our citizens?
"Break & Enter" conduct is illegal if it happens to a home owner or all citizens of a country. Breaking & entering into a country should not be rewarded with housing, educating, medicating, feeding and providing the handout with a drivers' license.
I don't buy this crap that we don't have Americans willing to do the work. Yeah, not at minimum wage, which is what these people are working for. Maybe if the cost of the wages was reflective of the work, you could find an able American to do it. By allowing these people to hop the border, work for equally illegal wages, and then to send the money home...why don't I just write a big ol' check to Mexico. Or better yet, the US can because that is what we are pretty much doing. Even if that means we have to oursource the labor/product, that still means we have less people using our services without paying into our system. We will get the tax dollars from the company either way.
Taking advantage of our system and then going back or demanding we cater to them is wrong. Our own citizens are not given the advantages of what illegals are. So no, I do not think they should just be given carte blanche to take advantage
