Which is better, user-generated website content, or content written by experts?

Writing by authorities may be conservative or stale, but deep & relatively accurate. Opening publishing to users allows the freedom of new opinions, by people who care enough to write for free. But you have to wade through a lot of worthless junk.

I'm not sure it's so much a question of which is better, or more valuable, but I would definitely say that user-generated content needs to be supported and that to criticize it for lack of depth is really not meeting it on its own turf.

The great thing about the Internet is that it has allowed such a wealth of information exchange by making user-generated content more possible than ever before, by an exponential factor. This is a development of an historical import so huge that we, still living very much in the infancy of the medium, are not yet in a position to grasp.

And yet, already, there are forces in corporate America (namely, big-time ISPs) conspiring to turn the Internet into a force-fed subscription service similar in structure to cable television, threatening to undermine the network-driven structure of the Internet in the name of "improving quality." Ha!

Experts: trusted authorities who know what they're talking about & write less misleading drivel.
