Animals: Lesser beings to be eploited or equals to be loved and honored?
Does complexity denote superiority in the case of humans and animals coexisting? Why is it not okay to put 50 people in a gas chamber, but it is ok to put 50 dogs in one? Is it okay to treat animals much more poorly then humans?

Animals aren't *quite* equal.. but

Animals and people are equals on this planet.
They're still really important parts of peoples lives, and never deserve to be treated poorly.
They're living creatures, and should be treated as such.
When it comes to animals I don't think it makes much sense to start talking about "rights" and "equality" with humans. I believe humans have a duty to animals. They are living. They feel pain and in their way they have affection for us.
But again to talk about rights and equality for animals may even diminish these concepts by toying with their definitions and I don't think that shows a lot of respect for people, especially people for whom equality and rights has been a long, hard struggle.
