Obama is betting he can carry Montana in November. What do you think?

I don't think Obama even stands a chance.

-- Posted By SandraK on July 4, 2008

While he is the only real chance for chance, I think it's quite a stretch that he'll actually win.

Top Comments

I agree, and I also agree that he will be Ameicas next president ;)
To say that it is a stretch that he will actually win is illogical. There are only two candidates left and Obama is one of the two. The math alone gives him a 50-50 shot. Add to that the fact that his opponent doesn't even have the full support of his own party. Republicans hate McCain. Polls show that Obama has just as much chance of winning as McCain does.
Obama definitely has a chance. He is a master at creating the proper perception for victory.

Flavor of the Month

-- Posted By YYY1 on July 5, 2008

Obama came on so strong, so fast, that I think the novelty will wear off. People will go back to the issues, not vote on the Flavor of the Month.

I think people will indeed go back to the issues...which is why people are going to be voting Obama. McCain's only issue is that he wants to keep us in Iraq for "a hundred more years," and seems to have a fundamental lack of understanding regarding the basic dynamics of what is happening there (constantly confusing Iran, Iraqi militants, and members of al Qaeda in Iraq -- all different entities with very different agendas). McCain has already said he does not understand economics (see http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/163009.php). Aren't those the two biggest issues on the table right now?

Sure Obama came on strong, and is still running strong. McCain never has.
I agree. It is who maintain the pace, not necessarily the first one out block, that takes home the gold.
I certainly hope people vote on the issues because it would definitely mean victory for the democratic party which will benefit everyone in this country.

What we say in public won't be reflected in the polls!

-- Posted By zenzi on July 13, 2008

I think what's going to happen in Montana is what's going to happen everywhere--"surface liberals" will vote for McCain because he's familiar and Caucasian. Racism is everywhere and I find that when I probe my most liberal friends on blackness, they sound just like the parents they reject. How different can you be from those that raised you? And, like mtrybak said in the above post, he's not getting help from Jessie Jackson. If he's not getting support from so-called Black leaders in public, what support can he get from white Montana in private?

I agree and also what we say to the pollsters will not reflect what we do behind a voting curtain.

It never ceases to amaze me how persuasive and charismatic Barack is. There could come a time when his bite is NOT bigger than his bark, but for now, he's got just the right size bite on his little doggy plate. He can do it, he has before other places, he can now.

Update:
this is supposed to be supporting!

-- Posted By arkjarhead on July 9, 2008

I hope the people of Montana are smarter than that. This guy says he wants to bring about change, but refuses to elaborate. Doesn't that seem odd? I think he is at least a Socialist if not a Commie. If he gets elected the USA as we know will cease to exist in the next 30 years. You some have compared him to Hitler? He is a smart guy, but he's foolish to think he can sit down and talk with terrorist. They will think he is weak. He will get more Americans kill than what W has. You can mark my word on that. Plus he needs more experience.

Obama is making headway

-- Posted By jfrodo on July 7, 2008

Montana is as Republican as can get.

I think he won't be able to win Montana. It's such a long shot I seriously doubt he

will win Montana. But who cares? He will win the election.

I think they are fundamentally simple people,
who will hang on to their traditions.

It depends

-- Posted By pauld43 on July 6, 2008

It really depends upon the gulliblity of the people of Montana.I hope he don't,but if the people of montana don't take a good look at his record and his credentials that might be duped by his siver tongue. But you know I'm gonna give the people of Montana the benefit opf the doubt and say that they have better sense than to vote for Obama. The wheat farmers and ranchers are probably blessed with commom sense and I am looking for them to have better sense than to vote for Obama.

ok so let's vote for another bush, let me guess you voted for him the first time, and then said you wanted more of his antics the second time around? Hmmmm, he owns oil and oil is through the roof. Hmmmm, the vp owned haliburton, and they got the contract for the war? hmmmmmm.... profit on war??? hmmm... People like you have destroyed our country. Go buy some Taiwan goods, or Venezualen Fuel. Destroy our economy while Saudi's drive in Audi's made of silver. Moron.

How have we come to this?

-- Posted By BarnacleBill on July 10, 2008

The two most liberal, oh excuse me, progressive Democrats are the final contestants for the nomination and the only difference between them is their supporters. The Republicans start with a pack of potential and John Boy is almost swamped in the first wave of primaries, but somehow he wins it. His biggest claim to fame is that he crosses the aisle. John, no one wants you to cross the aisle except for the guys on the other side. Well, I could always throw my vote away and vote for one of the Libertarian candidates you are 90% dead right and 10% loony-toons. Sigh. It just seems like between George Soros, the media, and blue-blood country club Republicans we are jerky marionettes twitching this way and that to the string pullers.

I think Obama is bad for the USA. I'm a soldier and he will take away everything that has been given to the military. He opens his mouth and inserts foot all the time. People need to open up their eyes and see this man for what he truly is.

Montana knows what to do

-- Posted By cangel818 on July 6, 2008

Presidential races are so long that people eventually get past the hype of a candidate and down to the facts. I am sure that the people of Montana will see past the UTube (really believable - right!) videos, and make the right choices based on facts and not hot bodies and cutsy commercials.

Going with the historical odds...

-- Posted By weloseourselves on July 6, 2008

I know the last Rasmussen poll had Obama leading by 5 in Montana. And I know Montana has elected a Dem governor, and I think now has two Dem senators. And I truly believe Obama is going to be competitive in a lot of "non-traditional" states. But I think Obama has a much better chance in New Mexico and Colorado. Somehow, I just can't see him spending the resources to really nab Montana on election day; it's just too small and too tough a nut to crack compared to some of the other swing states this year in which Obama has real strengths going for him.

Obama doesn't appeal to everyone!!

-- Posted By gardenwalk on July 5, 2008

It is scary how much people our listening to Obama. He is great at giving good lip service. He knows exactly what people want to hear, but he does not have the knowledge on how to get things done. I would much rather have someone in the White House who has been in a war and knows what is truely going on. I think the reason people don't like McCain is because he tells it like it is and sometimes people don't like hearing the truth.

Amen, and he doesn't appeal to me at all.

Montana will see through Obama

-- Posted By bdlee73 on July 12, 2008

Obama’s team has done an excellent job at making him a media darling while remaining rather vague about the specifics of his very left-leaning positions. Soon, the good people of Montana will see through the empty façade that is Obama and if anything, cast a vote against Obama rather than a vote for McCain. He will lose the state because the more independent minded people of Montana will see that Obama is nothing more than a liberal elitist who is merely dusting off liberal ideas from the 60s like Johnson’s “Great Society” programs where the government will become the solution for everything. Sorry, the only thing Obama has changed is how he has repackaged old ideas from the left.

He did

Well he did lol. This Obama appeal has nothing to do with race. He's a great canidate.Barack Obama has proven that he can appeal to voters in every demographic.

-- Posted By mtrybak on July 13, 2008

Obama has a lot to get through before he can consider winning Montana. And his good friend's like Jesse Jackson are sure helping him at all. It is probably highly unlikely that anyone but a conservative, older, white man can win that state. It will interesting to see what happens.

Trends...Trends...Trends

-- Posted By cloubeale on July 14, 2008

During this election it is of particular importance to look at the trends that are occurring in a particular state. Based on historical data Montana ranks 13th out of 50 for being conservative. Since the 1996 election it has been voting Republican. This is probably due to an increase of married, middle and upper-middle people. Also, we need to remember, what people openly espouse and what they are going to do behind the closed voting curtain will not necessarily be the same.

He can definitely do it.

Obama: A new Dawn for America

-- Posted By blaki on July 5, 2008

Time for change. There's a fresh wind blowing and people may not believe the old men any more.

Top Comments

Old men with valuable experience. Obama came on so fast, no one's had time to really look into him. That fresh wind might end up a huge destructive hurricane.
Agreed. Obama is the breath of fresh air that this country needs.
The thing is what kind of change is he talking about. He speaks of change in kind of a vague way,and you really wonder what he want to change. It is actually kinda scary when you tink about the people he has associated with in the past.Does he want to bring about the change that some of those people want bring about.

Montana Is Obama's For The Taking

-- Posted By malachi on July 4, 2008

Barack Obama has proven that he can appeal to voters in Big Sky country. Although these states are predominately white, they do not have the overwhelming history of racial animosity found in states in the Deep South and Appalachia. I think people in Montana are hungry for change and that if Obama reaches out to them with sincerity, they will respond to him well.

Top Comments

It is evident he is pleasant and appeals to everyone. Without a doubt he will win hands down. That is to say if we do not hav a recount or uncounted votes.
obama is so charismatic that one can believe he can cause no harm in his accpetance as an president , but he will be time tested all the way and has to maintain his perseverence
I think that barack obama is the real deal and people say that because he is still a freshmen senator that he will fail, but i think it just means he hasnt had time to be tainted.
