I think that there is, for all of you that believe in some sort of Deity, then it would only be logical that an equal and opposite power exists. Chaos to order, pleasure to pain light to dark. consciousness

Yes there is a Devil, an evil consciousness.

-- Posted By DiamondLips on January 3, 2008There has to be a balancing out of things, if there is a God or source of goodness, then there is a Devil or a source of darkness. Where God might be a being or order, the Devil might be one of chaos.
i believe firmly that the devil does exist. i believe that the devil is a lesser but opposite force working against good but not against God himself.
he cannot oppose God directly because he is a creation of God and therefore no more able to hurt God than you or I are.
Look at wars,false religions,many different gods, lieing preachers, politicians, companies,financial institutions,media all lie and hide the truth. How about social murder,rape,jealousy,hatred,discord,robbery,disobedience to parents,breaking God's laws and hypocrisy, surly you guys don't think these things come from God.
God inspires, that's how we got His word but so does the Devil, he is a master deceiver but his masterpiece is convincing people he doesn't exist. This is the single way that gives him the most power and opportunity.
No there is NOT a Devil, its all a fairy tale.

-- Posted By Jarod on January 14, 2008from my agnostic point of view, there is no proof of god or the devil and it honestly doesnt matter to me whether there is or not. the devil is just the physical, or spiritual manifestation of the evil that exists in every human being.
Is everyone really that naive? to think there is some ultimately governing force in this universe that makes sure everything is balanced and fair? Give me a break!!! there is no cosmic justice. People make good and bad decisions all the time. Who is to say there is a balance? How is that an argument for the existence of the devil? Ask a 10 year old in iraq with no arms or legs if there is a balance. No angel will swoop down from heaven and protect you from the gruesomeness of reality. The devil isnt sitting on your shoulder tempting you, that is your own urges that you must choose to repress or act upon. We are our own masters.

I don't believe there is a devil. If you believe mainstream Judeo-Christian theology, I think a devil is almost precluded. According to theology, God is all-good, all-knowing and all-powerful. If God is all-powerful, he could vanquish the devil. If God is all-good, he must vanquish the devil. To allow evil into the world knowingly would be inherently evil, which God supposedly cannot be.
From an agnostic viewpoint, it seems the devil is a convenient scapegoat. "It wasn't me, the devil made me do it!"
