Are religious boycotts getting excessive and ridiculous ?
Certain religious groups boycott Halloween and certain movies claiming that these they portray evil teachings. Examples are "Harry Potter" and the "Golden Compass". The general public thinks that their claims are far fetched, are they?

These religions are taking things too far and are seeing evil where it doesn't exist.
I think that these religions need to spend time on teaching, and not b!tching!
-- Posted By Alice on January 2, 2008These religious groups (mostly Christian) boycott Halloween, and certain movies (Harry Potter, the "Golden Compass", etc) fearing that their influence will deter their children's minds from their parent's religion. They claim that these movies and Halloween are of the devil, or that they undermine Christian views and teachings. I think they are full of it, and that they are more scared than anything else. How can anyone really even listen to their ranting? Do they even have any credibility at ALL to their allegations?
Concerning the Harry Potter books and movies I'm very dumbfounded as to why our good Christian communities are having a fit ranting that the Harry Potter event is "of the devil" and teaches evil things. Last I saw and heard there was plenty of friendship, love, courage, good triumphing over evil, etc in these films. So whats the big deal that someone can fly on a broomstick, or gets their hand chopped off? What about the "Golden Compass"? I thought that the movies was GREAT and I saw NO evidents of God hate or anti God anything. It hinted at some corrupt church organization, but in life that is a truth you will see in MANY churches ranging from pedophilia to more complicated and darker matters. I think that ridiculous for any religious group get worked up over that particular movie, It too has good teachings for ANY child.
On top of this did you know that Halloween originally was in CELEBRATION of the banishment of demons and devils from the world? Now how then can you call such an innocent thing as Trick or Treating demonic? Its all for fun, you extremists really need to calm down and breath, your child isn't going to worship satan just because he or she wants to in some way celebrate Halloween.
