The right to bare arms

Right now our nations capital is considering the right to bare arms within its territory. Why was this ever a problem in the first place. it says right in our constitution that we have the right to bare arms. Why are we even questioning this?

The real truth of gun laws

There is no State in the U.S. That allows a convicted felon to own or buy a gun. The problem is that the average criminal on the street doesn't get his gun from a licenced gun shop, so tightening the rules in places that obey the rules won't help, your just taking guns out of the hands of people with a need to defend themselves. Secondly, more guns does not equal more gun crimes. example:

http://bjsdata.ojp.usdoj.gov/dataonline/Search/Homicide/State/StateHomicide.cfm

As you can see for yourself, the states with the stricter gun laws are not the lowest on the charts of gun crimes, in fact the opposite is usually the case.

As far as accidents are concerned, I think a better solution would be to create a law that implicates the owner of a gun responsible for any incident that gun is involved in, and to charge that person with a felony crime, there by eliminating thier right to further own a gun. Example:

A child is found to have a gun at school, and the registered owner of that gun is charged with felony endangerment of a child, and his right to own guns is revoked. Thus taking guns out of the hands of those not responsible enough to lock their guns up.

Lastly, there is no law that will stop people from buying guns illegally. At least we could give the law abiding citizens the right to protect themselves and their loved ones. As always, Intelligent arguments welcome.

The increase in child accidents involving firearms would only increase if their parents are stupid enough to not teach their children gun safety, or putting them within a childs reach in the first place. As for the crime rate, maybe the government could get a move on doing that kind of thing instead of having cops rush to an elementary school everytime some 8 yo boy touches a girls arm.

Update:
And in any case. If you haven't noticed, the US is at war right now. We keep getting warnings that terrists are going to attack us again any day now, don't you think we'd want a way to protect ourselves? Besides, think about the people we have free and loose on the streets. On my street alone there are twenty or more pedifiles, don't I have a right to feel safe, just incase, and if that means carrying a gun, then by all means, I'll do.

Think about how our country was founded. Think about the way a lot of people have been brought up. Guns don't kill people. A kitchen knife in the hands of a stupid child isn't really all that different. People have the right to be prepared. You never know when you might need one for any number of reasons. Protecting yourself and your loved ones is a legitimate argument. You can't rely on the government to protect you at all times, not to mention the possibility of . wanting to be prepared for government corruption. After all, thats kind of the way this country came to be. .

wow, never thought of it that way! but you right, our country started by resisting corruption from our parent country. Maybe its time to do it again.

Having people who can defend themselves would greatly decrease the violent crime levels in any city. .

I think that is true also for specific areas of violence. .

Everyone owning a gun would cause the crime rate to increase.

This would put guns into the hands of those who previously couldn't afford them, including criminals

Yes people would now be able to protect themselves, but there would be an increase in child accidents involving firearms. Also I think that the crime rate would increase in gang related areas. Maybe have the background checking be more through.
