-- Posted By eastwind on November 20, 2007I feel that we should do whatever is needed to prevent such an event, if it is to happen. There was the Tagunskan event in Russian during the early 1900's where a whole section of Siberia was blasted by a house sized meteor.
But the meteor was an even mixture of ice and rock so it broke up a lot right before impact preventing disaster worldwide. .
Since the likeliness of this event occurring within the next 50 years is high, we should act quickly
-- Posted By Radkhat on November 20, 2007Statistically this cataclysm will occur again as it has in the past. It might be worse or less. In the year 2015 we are going to put out a missile defense system near the asteroid belt to intercept on coming objects earlier in their trajectory. .
