It has such a vast and well thought out history that it doesnt seem like a fiction novel as much as a historical documentation. I read almost everything tolkein ever wrote and i could barely get past the third wheel of time book. .

WoT though a longer read has better character development and flow, its definitely the better choice

The story has a lot less random singing and poetry, but don't get me wrong it definitely has those things too. The character development is great in WoT and you become attached to them quickly. .
