Is year-round school a good idea?

Many schools have gone from the traditional 9 months on/three months off schedule to one that provides for shorter but more frequent breaks of two weeks or so.

When i was in high school i went to school for 8 weeks and then had 2 weeks off. I think it was better that way because i didnt completely lose focus over the 2 weeks and it was nice to have several breaks a year.

Eventually they'll enter the workforce and wont have off 3 months a year (unless they're teachers). . Also, for many kids, summers off mean roaming the streets with little-to-no supervision and year round school would give them the structure and supervision many need. .

this is an excellent point. it is important to learn early on that you will never just get a 2 month break every year and that your 9-5 days will generally continue on consistently for a long time.

Year-round school is too intensive. Children need their summers off so that they can just be kids f

Having the summer allows for some release. It would seriously mess up the economy if we lossed that

Think about it, there are many things relying on a summer off to thrive. Vacations spots and such. Ridding us of our summer break would really give things a swirl.

There would just be more, but shorter periods that the industries would benefit from. It would be a same amount of time, just spread out over the year, rather than the busy season. It may even BENEFIT the tourism industry. Also, not every school district has off the same time, so while school is in session one week in disctrict A, the kids are off in district B so the tourism industry wouldn't even notice the difference. .

i dont think it would make a difference because there would still be a 2 week break at some point and all school districts have their different schedules. and people will take vacations whenever they want.

It's the REAL world.....Like most of the world...

The US gives their children a long, useless and financially debilitating break that servs no purpose....

Other countries give school kids small breaks through the year....It works well ...parents don't have to spend all their savings for "summer" programs....

There is no real LOGIOCAL reason for the summer break...

good point but shouldnt this be in the other column?

Children should have the chance to learn and experience from various life experiences, and a structured school environment will restrict their chances to do so.

There is more to life than school

There is a lot more to life than to be incarcerated in a school building for far too long being indoctrinated on some maddening slant that is being forced onto kids these days. Critical thinking and analysis? When did that go out of style? All they get are a bunch of hyped up "statistics" which are not to be questioned, and brainwashed into thinking it is truth.

Ugh!
